West Bengal's law defiance fuels radical tilt
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s repeated opposition to central laws like the CAA, NRC, and the Waqf (Amendment) Act, along with her political statements often seen as minority appeasement, is said to have added to the radicalisation of West Bengal. Critics argue that her policies have strengthened communal forces and allowed extremist ideologies to find ground in the state. The continued issue of illegal migration from Bangladesh, along with similarities in rhetoric with Pakistan-backed narratives, has raised serious national security concerns. As per Article 254 of the Indian Constitution, states are required to follow central laws, making Bengal’s persistent defiance constitutionally debatable.
